After the success of last year's CineMuerte at The Blinding Light!!, Vancouver's International Horror Film Festival is back, this time at the Pacific Cinémathèque, with 22 more reasons why you shouldn't hate horror.

From the poetic musings of France's sole horror auteur Jean Rollin (who will appear in person on July 2nd!) to the Italian classics Vancouverites have grown to love over the past few years, CineMuerte 2000 will feature a spate of obscure international treasures sure to please discriminating viewers and bottom-feeders alike.

German 'Nekromantik' director Jörg Buttgereit will appear in person on July 7th to discuss why his films are banned in British Columbia and David Whitten, perhaps most notorious in horror circles as the marketing mastermind behind Wes Craven's 'Last House on the Left', will be here to introduce the Udo Keir vehicle 'Mark of the Devil' (complete with the original 'vomit-bags' that served as the film's biggest advertising gimmick upon its 1972 release.)

This year's smorgasbord of Italiana will include Romano Scavolini's 'Nightmare', Antonio Margheriti's 'Danza Macabra' (starring genre fetish emblem Barbara Steele), Gioulio Questi's new-wave giallo 'Death Laid An Egg', and Lucio Fulci's magnum opus 'The Beyond'.

CineMuerte is also proud to present the North American premiere of Hisayasu Sato's 'Naked Blood', an exercise in Cronenbergian excess from Japan's most respected pornographer (in Japan that isn't an oxymoron.)

Full programme guides are available now at Black Dog Video and other fine establishments (Videomatica, Singles Going Steady, Scrape Records, Virgin Mary's).  A limited number of festival passes ($55) and advance tickets ($5 per show) can be obtained only at Black Dog Video (3451 Cambie Street).

For further information or to arrange a press pass or interview with festival director Kier-la Janisse, please call Black Dog Video (873-6958) or e-mail: cinemuerte@hotmail.com.

'Scream 3' acolytes beware: this isn't Hollywood.
You may actually be horrified.
