Death Smiles on a Murderer
Italy, 1972, Dir. Aristide Massacessi, Video, 89 min. English with Japanese Subtitles
Massacessi, better known by the name Joe D'Amato, made this great gothic/supernatural giallo with Ewa Aulin, Klaus Kinski and Luciano Rossi early in his career, but never has his camerawork been more refined and stylized. Super gory, well-paced and creative.

Don't look Now
UK, 1973, Dir. Nicholas Roeg 16mm
Nicholas Roeg's finest hour sees Julie Christie and Donald Sutherland as the bereaved parents of a young drowned girl. Upon moving to Venice a series of bizarre things happen: Christie befriends a blind psychic and her sister, who maintain that they've 'seen' the drowned daughter, a serial killer seems to be dumping bodies in the canals, and Sutherland is on the recieving end of countless portents of doom which he chooses to ignore. A tragic, truly horrifying film.
