Buddy
Giovinazzo
Buddy Giovinazzo took his first film class at
the age of 23, and was so fervently attracted to the realm of
filmmaking that he abandoned his career as a musician (a talent
that runs in the family -- Giovinazzo's brother Rick still scores
his films to this day). in 1984 Troma Films optioned his first
feature, the now-legendary chunkblowing classic Combat Shock.Hi
'No Way home' (1997) attracted the interests of German financiers,
and Giovinazzo was sumoned to Germany shortly thereafter to
begin filming 'The Unscarred'. In the interim, Giovinazzo has
focused on writing, with four books to his credit including
'Life is Hot in Cracktown' and 'Poetry and Purgatory'. In a
recent coup, Giovinazzo's unpublished novel 'Potsdamer Platz',
named after the largest construction site in Europe, has been
optioned by director Tony Scott, with shooting scheduled for
2002/3. Giovinazzo is adapting the screenplay himself.
Buddy Giovinazzo will be present at the screening of 'The
Unscarred' on Saturday, July 14th at 10pm. |
Udo
Kier
One would be hard pressed to find a genre fan
with no knowledge of the cult icon Udo Kier. Perhaps the world's
closest living counterpart to Klaus Kinski (in proliferation
and mystique, if not temperament), Udo Kier has appeared in
over 120 films -- 8 so far this year, and counting -- which
he attributes to his pure love of acting. Some Kier-staples
in the horror genre include Walerian Borowczyck's 'Dr. Jeckyll
and his Woman', 'The House on Straw Hill', 'Mark of the Devil'
(which played at last year's CineMuerte), and almost every film
of Christoph Schlingensief (The German Chainsaw Massacre). Last
year, he turned his attentions to directing with 'Broken Cookie's
(Dogma 7), a poly-fetishistic film starring his 'United Trash'
co-star Kitten Natividad. In the words of Tons May, "Udo
Kier offers a variety of personas".
Udo Kier will be present at the screening
of Flesh for Frankenstein
on July 14th at Midnight. UDO KIER'S SCHEDULE MAY CHANGE,
SO PLEASE KEEP CHECKING BACK TO THIS WEBSITE AND TO THE CINEMATHEQUE
LOBBY FOR ANY CHANGES THAT MAY BE POSTED.
